Need to clean memory foam mattress? Our 6 steps guide below will help you clean your memory foam mattress by yourself. It is simple, you just need to follow step by step to get your mattress clean and refreshed.

Memory foam mattresses have a good reputation because of the benefits each consumer might get from them. Make sure you are not violating the manufacturer’s direction before following these tips to clean your mattress and maintain its perfect shape.

Now, keep reading to learn how to clean memory foam mattress then you can go to bed early and enjoy a great sleep.

#1 Remove and wash the cover with the utmost caution

First of all, check on the warranty agreement and ensure your cover is removable. Most covers should be unzippable and washable, but we don’t want to void the warranty, do we?

If you have a memory foam mattress topper, a few drops of essential oils or white vinegar is a recommendation. For better results, warm water is also a great choice.

In the worst case of not able to remove the cover, keep calm and read on…

#2 Eliminate all visible dirt and debris

Does it seem too obvious? We tend to overlook this step while it should be done regularly. If you neglect these little crumbs, they can sneak into the deepest inches of your mattress and ruin it from inside. Rather than a huge, bulky machine that might tear off the upper tiers of your bedding, a hand-held vacuum or a standing vacuum with a brush attachment will be much more helpful.

Start with slow and steady strokes, vertically then horizontally, and finish by reaching into smaller crevices in case debris has somehow ended up there.

If you own pets, their hair can cling to the mattress more tightly. You will need a vacuum specifically designed for collecting pet hair to remove them.

Vacuuming is an important primary starter. The next steps of cleaning are going to be much easier when the mattress is free from lint and dirt. We recommend vacuuming your mattress at least once a month.

#3 Spot-cleaning stains

Handling stains immediately is the best solution but the choice isn’t always yours. The longer you leave the stains alone, the further they get to the material. And here come troubles.

The interior of memory foam cannot endure strong chemicals in bleach and ammonia, you will have to prepare a solution to tend to the stains.

Mixing:
A suggested formula for a homemade cleaner: tender laundry detergent + warm water in the ratio of 1/2. Vinegar is a good alternative for detergent, it’s capable of diluting the stain and soaking up unpleasant odors.

Rule of thumb: the solution is ready for use when it’s consistent with visible bubbles on the surface.

Cleaning:
Once you have had an ideal solution, dip a piece of sponge into it. The key is being gentle and only absorbing the bubbles (and a little bit of water) before rubbing against the tainted spot in quick circular motions. Be careful and do not apply too much wetness or pressure if unless you want the stains to get into the mattress and worsen the damage. Afterward, get a new cloth to dab the spare solution off and allow the fabrics some time to dry.

What if it is particularly wayward and the solution fails to do the trick? Must be stubborn stains from bodily fluids. Try a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water!

#4 Dry the mattress

It might take a couple of days for the mattress to dry and here’s when you must act quickly! Excess moisture might create a humid environment that mold and mildew are extremely fond of – they are the natural animosities of any mattress. Equip yourself with a hair-dryer or a small fan and dry the memory foam as much as possible before you move it to a well-ventilated area for through air-out.

One small tip: memory foam is sensitive to temperature, hence using the heat mode of your dryer will cause it to crease and pucker.

What should you do if it’s the middle of winter and there’s no sunshine?

#5 Deodorize and vacuum once more

Sprinkle some baking soda on the surface of your mattress and wait for half an hour then use the recommended vacuum to remove the particles. This method also helps to reduce any unwanted memory foam smell.

A mattress protector is often made of fluid-resistant materials. It offers a powerful shield against food stains and accident spills whilst still giving the mattress breathability.

An encasement is slightly different as it embraces all six sides of the mattress and blocks all allergens out.

A mattress topper is not only enhancing the quality of your sleep, providing comfort, it can also safeguard your mattress.
