The Brewers Collective, Bay Shore, NY, USA
The Brewers Collective is a small 3bbl brewery in Bay Shore, New York, that's unique in both the beers we brew and how our company is put together. We are the first brewery on Long Island to brew and sell herbal/gruit ales commercially, while also brewing more traditional styles as well as our own interpretations of newer trends in craft beer. We are a true collective; we are comprised of six owners, each of which has an equal stake in the company and handles their share of the work. There is no boss or hierarchy - we all have equal say over the direction of our company, which evolved into being after years of homebrewing together as a group. We started at an alt-prop facility in Farmingdale and have since moved to Bay Shore & are excited to open our tap room in early 2017.
For International Gruit Day, we're going to collaborate with our friend Paul Komsic - the head brewer at Brick House Brewery to brew a yet unnamed heather ale based on traditional Scottish recipes and techniques, steeped in the lore of the bygone world. We can certainly update you once we've decided on a name.
Some of our other gruits are:
Loot - a gruit brewed with sage, lemon balm and hibiscus calyx - this is a spring seasonal that we refer to as a garden in a glass
Witchbinder - a fall/winter gruit brewed with sage & a roasted local cultivar pumpkin called L.I. Cheese Pumpkin
Primitive Mind - a recreation of bronze-age Irish ale, brewed with yarrow, elderflower and juniper.
